Isn't my new blog button so pretty? There's even a handy HTML grab code in my sidebar :) |
What
happened for this month's monthly wrap-up was that it magically got deleted
from Blogger, and haven't had the time or heart to rewrite it, but I told
myself and here it is. I had to get this up because I felt like I owed it to
all you awesome people. So I just want
to apologize for being such a terrible blogger in the month of January. If you
have been following my meager posts from the past two weeks, you will know I was
sick. It's not serious, but it's enough to make me extremely tired, so all I
want to do after I finish my homework is collapse onto my bed and go to
sleep...which is pretty much all I've been doing the last two weeks of
January. The good news is that I have been pretty consistent and have
stuck to my made up schedule below.
Loving
the Language of Literacy Lookback
- I was nominated for a Liebster award! For those of you that don't know, a Liebster award is given to new bloggers with less than 200 followers as something to say "you may be new, but you're doing so well, keep up the good work" kind of thing.
- I have 75 Bloglovin followers! :) I seriously cannot say how thankful I am for this. The first time someone followed me I thought their computer malfunctioned. For having only been a blogger for exactly two months and one day, this is a huge accomplishment that I couldn't have achieved without all you lovely people. *Internet Hugs* I really want to let you know how appreciative and grateful I am for how far I've gotten, and you are going to be seeing a lot more of me in February (is that a good thing?)
Loving
the Language of Literacy Lookout
- I cannot tell you how excited I was because for the first time ever I went to a book signing as a blogger!!! Today I went to the Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore was the first stop on the Fight For the Future Tour. Amie Kaufman (These Broken Stars), Meagen Spooner (These Broken Stars & Skylark), Margaret Stohl (Icons & co-author of Beautiful Creatures), and Marie Lu (Legend Trilogy) are going to be talking and signing books there and I cannot tell you how psyched I was for it. Having gone to the book signing entitles a Spontaneous Saturday (the only planned one) post with transcribed video (I should just die now)! Last time when I went to Marie Lu's last stop on her Champion tour, I transcribed over 25 minutes of footage from the signing so it would seem like you were all with me. Needless to say it took a long time, but because of the wondering feedback I got, because of how wonderful you are, and as a treat for sticking with me after being sick for so long, I am doing it again as almost a Thank You present, especially because I have over 45 minutes worth of footage.
- I am in the process of having various blog designs and features made which I am super happy about especially because Laura @ Laura Plus Designs (as well as writer of the amazing blog Laura Plus Books). She is so kind, and helpful, and completely willing to work with you no matter how crazy you are (ME!!!). Laura does Image Sliders, Blog Design Clean-Ups, Headers, Backgrounds, Favicons, Tour, Events, and Blog Banners, as well as Blogger to Wordpress migration, and anything else your heart could want for.
- February is the month of blog tours!. I have six blog tour stops which is a lot of work, but nevertheless the books on the tours are so much fun to read, and I can't wait for you to hear about them from me.
- February 3-Unite: Jamie Campbell
- February 7-E.K.H.O: Marie D. Jones
- February 10-Reapers Rhythm: Clare Davidson
- February 14-Butterman (Time) Travel Inc: P.K. Hrezo
- February 21-A Touch of Honor: J.P. Grider
- February 28-Peacful Genocide: J.A. Reynolds
- Discussion Thursdays is back on!!! Jayne @ Fiction_TheNewReality took a month long Discussion Thursday hiatus because of New Year New Books, but we are resuming this month with some great topics.
Books
Read in January
I
read a grand total of 9 books this month, which is horrible, but I'm trying to
get back on my game in February. I swear I'm not trying to make excuses, but
being sick really took a toll on my blogging and reading, the gazillion tests
and quizzes I took this month didn't help much either. I'm four books behind on
my Goodreads goal *sobs*

Posts
Even
though my post count was quite pitiful this month, I am happy to say I reached
my review goal. I'm not saying that memes, book hauls, and challenges aren't
important, but what I am saying is that as bloggers, we sometimes have to take
a step back and remember why we started, which is sharing our opinions about
books. I want my readers to know that I value the books more than anything
else. I beat myself up over the fact that I didn't do Top Ten Tuesday,
or Stacking the Shelves, but I have come to realize in my first full
month of blogging that I would rather post all reviews than a ton of memes
every day. Before you break out the pitchforks, I don't want you to freak out
and think I'm only going to post reviews, because I definitely want and am
going to do those too. I just want you to honestly know where my priorities
lie. You can find out more about priorities, as well as the way I balance blogging with my personal life in my newest Discussion Thursday post.
February 2014 Wishes/Goals
Every
month, I write up a list of goals and/or wishes for Loving the Language of
Literacy (as of last month). Above all, I don't want people to think I'm being
self-entitled, and thinking I can get a
certain number of followers this month. These are just my own ambitions and
basically, if a single one of these happened, I would be extremely happy.

Scheduling
Explanations:
- The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves is cancelled for the first Sunday in February (2/2) because January's Monthly Wrap-Up is so long.
- I am doing weekly posts, Life of a Blogger and Top 10 Tuesday arbitrarily for topics I want write about. Don't ask me why all the ones I want to write are closer to Math Field Day when the pressure will be on even more.
- I am going to try to make my review schedule Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and February will be the month I am trying out everything, and trying to see if I can fit it into my schedule.
Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. The Love of Literacy basically means, my favorite
book of the month. I believe that if you read one historical fiction
book in the next six months, this should be the one because of the fast pace,
wonderful characters, and perspective of both the revolutionary war and what it
was like to be a slave in the thick of history.
That is pretty much it, I have a lot of
fun Spontaneous Saturday ideas, a bunch of exciting Discussion Thursdays, Blog
Tours, and a lot more planned for Loving the Language of Literacy. Thank you so
much to anyone who follows me, leaves a comment, enters a giveaway, and
everything else that you wonderful people do. I hope to have even a better
month in February, with a lot more design changes, filled with reading, and new
obsessions. If you ever want to suggest something to me, or ask me a question,
leave it in the comments below, tweet me @sslluvsbooks, or email me at
